Update + Dragão/Dragon

Olá a todos!                                              Hi everyone!

Demorou mas estou de volta. Já me mudei para a Alemanha mas ainda estou a assentar. As temperaturas estão gélidas mas felizmente está sol, vamos ver como é que este tempo horrível evolui, principalmente em países mais afectados. Ontem dobrei o meu primeiro origami em solo alemão! Só tenho um bloquinho pequeno de papel quadrado que trouxe comigo e para o encontrar no meio das minhas coisas foi uma aventura!

It took me a while but I'm back. I've moved to Germany but I'm still settling down. Temperatures are freezing but hopefully there is sun, let's see how this terrible weather evolves, even more so in the most afected countries. Yesterday I folded my first origami on german soil! I just have a small block of square white paper I brought with me but finding it between all my other things was an adventure!

Escolhi dobrar um dragão, já que estamos no seu ano. Eu adoro dobrar dragões mas acho que nunca tinha mostrado nenhum aqui no blog! Este ano isso vai mudar, vou tentar fazer uma série só com dragões, vamos ver se consigo.

I chose to fold a dragon, since this is it's year. I love folding dragons but I thing I never showed any of them at the blog! This year that will change, I'll try to make a series of dragons, let's see if I can.

Não sei quem é o autor do modelo mas podem encontrar o diagrama aqui.

Antes de me mudar tive a minha aula virtual com a Isa Klein (obrigada querida!) em que ela me ensinou a dobrar uma estrela modular. E para minha surpresa ela acabou por dar o meu nome à estrela!!! Por isso em princípio o próximo origami a mostrar será a minha Estrela Sandra.

Before moving here I had my virtual class with Isa Klein (thanks!) where she taught me to fold a modular star. And to my surprise she ended up giving my name to the star!!! So I'm planning that the next origami I show is my own Sandra Star.

E agora algo totalmente diferente... And now something completely different...

Olá a todos!                   Hi everyone!

Espero que as festas tenham sido boas, as minhas foram com certeza. Hoje é dia de Reis, e por isso o último de celebração do Natal :( Por isso vou mostrar um ornamento que eu fiz mas que ainda não tinha mostrado. Surpresa! Não é origami.

I hope the holidays were good, mine were for sure. Today is the Epiphany, or as we call it around here Kings' Day, and so the last day of Christmas celebrations :( So I'm going to show you an ornament I did but hadn't shown you. Surprise! It's not origami.

Não ficou lindo? E foi fácil de fazer. A principal dificuldade foi fazer o molde mas improvisação é o meu nome do meio. Tenho a certeza que com paciência qualquer pessoa consegue. Podem ver o tutorial aqui.

Isn't it gorgeous? And it was easy to do. The main difficulty was to make the mold but improvising is my middle name. I'm sure that with a little patient anyone can make it.You can check the tutorial here.

Árvore de Natal X-mas Tree

Olá a todos!                                             Hi everyone!

Estou de volta aos post de origami. É época de Natal e como tal eu já tratei de fazer alguns ornamentos para enfeitar a casa. Todos os anos costumo fazer uma árvore de Natal diferente em origami, desta vez escolhi um modelo do Francesco Guarnieri (Crease Pattern). Vejam o resultado!

I'm back to origami posts. This is Christmas time and I'm already taking care of some ornaments for the house. Every year I make a diferent origami Christmas tree, this time I chose a model by Francesco Guarnieri (Crease Pattern). See how it worked!

Então, o que acham? Eu pessoalmente adorei dobrar este modelo. Não se desmotivem a experimentar só porque é um Crease Patttern, já que ele é muito fácil de seguir. No final têm que dar a forma final a cada módulo de modo a assemelhar-se com a foto. Toca a tentar?

So, what do you think? I personally loved folding this model. Don't let the fact that it's a Crease Pattern stop you from trying this because trust me when I say it's very easy to follow. In the end you just have to give the final shape so that it looks like the photo. Let's try?

De volta... já não era sem tempo! Back... it was about time!

Olá a todos!                                                 Hi everyone!

Já não era sem tempo de eu actualizar o blog e contar as novidades, que são muitas! Fui obrigada a parar com o blog porque estive mais ocupada do que de costume:

1. Defendi a minha tese de doutoramento, tendo obtido classificação de 19 valores (em 20 possíveis) correspondendo a Excelente! 
2. na semana antes da defesa fui fazer uma apresentação do meu trabalho a um centro de investigação conceituadíssimo da área de reprodução na Alemanha e também uma entrevista que correu muito bem.
3. Na sequência do ponto 2. fui convidada (e aceitei) uma posição de post-doc nesse centro de investigação o que quer dizer que...

........ vou-me mudar para a Alemanha a partir do mês que vem e viver lá durante os próximos 3 anos!

It was about time for me to update this blog and tell you the news, there are so many! I really had to stop the blog because I was even more busy than usual:

1. I defended my PhD thesis and got a classification of 19 (on 20) which corresponds to Excellent!
2. The week before the defense I presented my work at a super research center in the field of reproduction in Germany and also got an interview there which went great.
3. Following point 2. I was offered (and accepted) and post-doc position at that center which means...

...............I'm moving to Germany next month and will be living there for the next 3 years!

Por hoje é só isto que tenho para dizer mas em breve voltarei!

Não há Bella sem senão

Olá a todos!                                           Hi everyone!

Tenho andado afastada mais uma vez, para variar. Sem entrar em grandes pormenores muitas coisas têm acontecido na minha vida. Em breve vou fechar um ciclo da minha vida e, espero eu, iniciar outro que, espero, me vai trazer mudanças positivas.

I've been away again. Without going into much detail let's just say that a lot of things have been going on in my life. Soon a cycle will be closed and another will begin, hopefully full of good changes.

Para ajudar escolhi um kusudama novo para fazer que me deu um trabalhão (que não merecia) e eu fiquei na dúvida sobre se havia de o mostrar ou não.

To make things easier I chose a new kusudama to make that gave me a ton of work (and didn't deserve it) and it took a long time to decide wether to show it or not.

Não é segredo para ninguém que nos últimos tempos eu tenho feito bastantes modelos da origamista russa Ekaterina Lukasheva e tenho dito aqui o quanto eles são bonitos e engenhosos de montar. Muito bem, desta vez decidi experimentar mais um modelo dela, o Bella. Achei-o lindo, realmente digno do nome. Assim que aprendi o módulo comecei logo a fazer as pecinhas no papel escolhido, laranja e amarelo a lembrar o sol de final de Verão. Já tinha bastantes módulos dobrados quando comecei a encaixá-os e aí começou o sarilho. Eles não se mantinham no sítio de maneira nenhuma, quase me levaram à loucura. Toca de ir buscar a cola para ver se assim conseguia. Qual quê? Mesmo com cola a montagem foi um pesadelo, o kusudama ficou todo torcido e cheio de buracos porque os módulos não encaixam devidamente. Enfim, vi-me e desejei-me para o acabar. Mas ficou tão feiinho :(

It is no secret that lately I have folded a lot of models by russian origamist Ekaterina Lukasheva and told you all about how lovely they are. Very well, that was before I tried her kusudama Bella. I thought it was so beautifull, trully worthy of the name. As soon as I learned the module I started folding lots of them if my chosen paper, in orange and yellow to remind me of the late Summer sun. I already had a large amount of modules when I started to join them and that was when it got tough. They just didn't stay together no matter what I did, they were driving me crazy. I reached for the glue (extreme times require extreme measures) but still it was a nightmare. The kusudama ended up all twisted and full of holes because the modules didn't fit correctly. I did finish it eventually but it turned out so ugly :(

Já agora, o que é que acham da foto? Ando a experimentar uma coisa nova para tirar fotos mais apresentáveis mas acho que não está a dar muito resultado por enquanto. Depois mostro-vos o que é.


By the way, what do you think of the photo? I've been trialling something new to try to take better pictures but I don't think it's working so far. Later I'll show you what it is.
